according to the whitley bay guardian there is a new open air ice rink opening at tynemouth boating lake.although the plans were blocked last year by the then mayor,the new mayor linda arkley has given the go ahead and its due to open on the 16th december.
this new rink is gonna be open all year and the guy has a 21 year lease so its not some short term venture.there was also talk last year that he wanted to form somekind of hockey team(dont realy understand how that would work ).the thing is do you think it will be a good thing or a bad thing.

francis apparentley isnt too happy about it but you never know,it could just be a good thing for all concerned.

Yeah, there were petitions etc and thats why the previous mayor halted it for further discussions etc.  I'm not sure it will affect Francis long-term.  I mean, it will be a novelty at first certainly but after a while when there's nowhere to get a cup of tea or some food it'll get a bit tedious i'm sure.  And what's gonna happen when it rains? Everyone will go to the rink as normal. If the weather is bad outside then they'll all be in the rink. It might be popular in the summer but the novelty will soon wear off i think.  There'll be nowhere for the gangs of kids to congregate like they do at the rink on the benches etc and the parents who take their kids skating at the rink often go and sit in the bar and watch them through the window. No bar at the open air rink.  And where will people go to the loo? Are there toilets there? It's just gonna be another place for gangs of kids to gather at night times, making a noise and disturbing people.
